Chapel Hill, N.C. — Chapel Hill and Durham police were looking into the possibility that three robberies at area hotels early Tuesday were related.
A man who said he had a gun robbed a clerk at the University Inn near Duke University Hospital at about 1 a.m., police said.
About an hour later, a gunman tried to rob the Siena Hotel on East Franklin Street, but he fled when the manager told him he didn't have any money, police said.
Someone smashed a window in the front office of a Red Roof Inn about a mile away about 20 minutes later and stole $250 in cash while the manager was delivering something to a room, police said.
