Fayetteville, N.C. — The son of Fayetteville Police Chief Tom Bergamine was convicted Tuesday of drunken driving and was placed on probation.
Joseph Michael Bergamine, 18, was arrested last July and charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving and hit-and-run following a wreck on Arnish Court in Fayetteville. His blood-alcohol content was 0.13 several hours after the wreck, police said. The legal limit of intoxication in North Carolina is 0.08.
Jurors acquitted Joseph Bergamine of the reckless driving and hit-and-run charges.
He received a 60-day suspended sentence on the DWI charge and and placed on probation for two years. He also was ordered to pay a $100 fine and perform 24 hours of community service, and his license was suspended.
