Holly Springs, N.C. — The South Wake Landfill in Holly Springs will open on Thursday, Feb. 7, Wake County officials said Friday.
Licensed haulers will be charged $30 per ton initially to use the facility, and Raleigh will be given a $3 discount per ton, officials said.
The landfill, which has been vehemently opposed for years by Holly Springs officials and residents, will replace the North Wake Landfill, off Durant Road in north Raleigh.
The North Wake Landfill is expected to reach its capacity in April, and officials said they would like to keep it open until the Raleigh Transfer Station opens in late March.
