Timothy Jerome Medley Jr., charged with choking child

A Fayetteville man was charged Wednesday with physically abusing a 3-year-old girl, authorities said.

Timothy Jerome Medley Jr., 20, of 223 Canady St., was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $25,000 secured bond.

Investigators said Medley grabbed the girl by the throat and tried to strangle her sometime last Friday. The girl also was struck on the head and shoulders, resulting in bruising, authorities said.

The girl was treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and released. Physicians told authorities that visible marks on her face and body indicated abuse.

Yes, I'm pretty sure this individual was an abused child but to say he didn't know better, well, I just can't agree with. None of us had control over how our lives were when we were children. We do, however, have control over how we choose to live our lives once become adults. To the posters that were questioning whether 20 was an adult or a child, all I have to say is the 3 year olds that I take care of know not to choke someone

Well said, dpcallah. I agree...

He should be put in jail and never released

Unfortunately, he probably does know how it feels. He was probably treated the same way growing up. He just learned that way.

I'm not say it's okay or justified, but it'll take a long time for generational problems like this to go away.

Before I'm called a liberal keep in mind that I think this guy is probably broken mentally with no way to be fixed and shouldn't be let free in public anymore. Once you abuse a child like that, I do NOT think you should be given a second chance.

I would take a day in jail if I could be locked up in a cell alone with this guy.
