Sanford, N.C. — A man was critically wounded and a woman died late Monday in a domestic shooting, authorities said.
Lee County deputies responded to a domestic dispute and shooting at 328 Harbor Trace in the Carolina Trace subdivision shortly after 9 p.m. Monday, authorities said.
Steven Carroll Thomas, 41, was outside the residence and had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, authorities said. He told deputies that he had been shot by his ex-wife, who had gone inside the residence.
Deputies then heard a single gunshot from inside the residence. They later found Cynthia Holt Thomas, 41, dead inside of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
Steven Thomas was flown by helicopter to Duke University Hospital in Durham, where he was listed Tuesday in critical condition.
