A soldier was found dead in his barracks on Fort Bragg Friday, authorities said Monday.

Pfc. Oscar Francisco Cruz, 24, an automated logistical specialist in the 54th Forward Support Company, 1st Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, died from a gunshot wound, authorities said.

Cruz, a native of the Bronx, N.Y., entered the military in September 2003 and was assigned to Fort Bragg in May 2005. He was deployed to Iraq from December 2005 to November 2006.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Is this rank correct? Joined in 2003. In Iraq from Dec 05 to Nov 06. Could he really be a Pfc.?
