Raleigh, N.C. — A man who tried to help neighbors whose townhouse was on fire needed hospital care on Thursday evening, Raleigh officials said.
A fire broke out a townhouse in Fairgates Apartments, 8924 Lanwood Drive in north Raleigh, around 5:45 p.m.
A neighbor saw the fire and tried to get into the townhouse to help before firefighters arrived, officials said. The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Authorities did not release his name.
The fire was contained to the upper level of the two-story townhouse, firefighters said.
A mother and son were displaced by the fire, officials said.
Investigators said they had not yet determined the cause of the fire and remained on the scene Thursday night.
