Charlotte, N.C. — Two North Carolina accommodations and one restaurant have earned top honors as AAA Five Diamond facilities for 2008.
The Fearrington House Inn and The Fearrington House Restaurant in Pittsboro have earned AAA's top rating for the 14th and 13th times, respectively. The Fearrington House Inn has earned the Five Diamond designation more times than any other accommodation in the Carolinas.
The Umstead Hotel & Spa in Cary joined the prestigious Five Diamond list, earning the award in its first year of operation.
The Umstead is the first full-service hotel in North Carolina to receive AAA's highest rating. Its Herons Restaurant received a AAA Four Diamonds rating.
AAA's 65 full-time professional evaluators inspect 41,000 lodgings and restaurants anonymously and unannounced each year throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico. Properties earn a rating, ranging from One to Five Diamonds. Fewer than 0.5 percent receive the Five Diamond rating.
