Fayetteville, N.C. — A local man has been charged with threatening to burn his house while his family was inside, authorities said.
John McLeod, of 4765 Jackie Hood Lane, was charged with attempted murder, second-degree kidnapping and arson. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $150,700 secured bond.
Investigators said McLeod placed a lit butane tank against the family's house to prevent his wife and children from leaving. He then moved the lit tank to underneath the family car when his 15-year-old son put McLeod's 7-year-old daughter into the car, police said.
No one was injured in the incident.
