Police were searching Tuesday for a man injured while trying to elude officers last week after the man walked out of UNC Hospitals.

Maurico Eugene Long, 24, whose last known address was 5503 Barbee Chapel Road in Chapel Hill, faces charges of felony fleeing to elude, speeding, fictitious registration, reckless driving, failing to yield for blue lights and siren, three counts of possession of stolen goods, two counts of larceny from a vehicle, possession of a firearm on town property and resisting arrest.

Three men were in a car that sped out of the Eubanks Road Park and Ride Lot early Friday as police approached the car. Police said they were patrolling the lot because several vehicles had been broken into recently.

The car went out of control and rolled several times, and Long and another man were injured, police said.

Long reportedly removed the IVs from his arm and walked out of the hospital with an unidentified woman, police said.

Anyone with information about Long's whereabouts is asked to call the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.
