Salemburg, N.C. — The Sampson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting.

At 11:58 p.m. Saturday, deputies received a call about a man being shot on Emerald Lane at the intersection of Lakewood School Road, near Salemburg.

Upon arrival, deputies found the body of Michael Shawn Lacass, 23, beside his vehicle.

His exact cause of death is being withheld pending the medical examiner's investigation. The case is being treated as a homicide, deputies said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Sampson County Sheriff's Office at 910-592-4141.
