Cary, N.C. — Sediment at residential construction sites in west Cary looks worse than it is, according to state and local environmental inspectors.

An environmental group claimed that heavy rains last weekend caused sediment runoff at developments off O'Kelly Chapel and Green Level roads. The runoff spilled into tributaries to Jordan Lake, a primary drinking water source for towns in western Wake County, according to the group.

A spokesman for Lennar Homes disputed the claims, saying runoff was contained on the developer's site.

Inspectors said they found no major sediment control violations at the subdivisions, adding that most of the runoff was the normal result of rain.
