Raleigh, N.C. — Thousands of volunteers laid Christmas wreaths on the graves of veterans in cemeteries nationwide on Saturday.
A service was held at Raleigh National Cemetery as part of the "Wreaths Across America" event. A prayer and color guard presentation began the ceremony, and then a wreath was laid for each branch of the military.
Organizers said they hope one day there will be enough wreaths to lay on the grave of each veteran in Raleigh.
At Arlington National Cemetery, volunteers laid 10,000 wreaths on headstones.
