The results of an independent investigation into the Spring Lake Police Department were released Monday night.

In July, District Attorney Ed Grannis asked the sheriff's office to assume control of all felony investigations in Spring Lake. He claimed the police department lacked the manpower and  training to investigate such cases.

A study was then launched to look into all aspects of law enforcement, personnel, policy and procedures.

Among the findings were that the police department was allocated money for training, but never used it. The report also suggested the chain of command within the department needed improving, as well as its relationship with county agencies.

Police Chief A.C. Brown said the department plans to improve inter-agency collaboration and launch a training development program to address the report's recommendations.
