Wake County prosecutors have dismissed the case against a murder suspect's father who was arrested Monday morning, a few days after his son was arrested in connection with a Garner bank robbery.

Samuel Cooper, 53, of 2300 Creech Road, was arrested early Monday at his home and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Court records Tuesday, however, indicated a voluntary dismissal of the charge.

Cooper was convicted in 1994 of indecent liberties with a child and was on probation when he was arrested.

His son, Samuel James Cooper, was charged Tuesday with five counts of murder in connection with five unsolved homicides dating back to May 2006.

Last week, authorities arrested him in connection with a robbery at the Bank of America on Benson Road in Garner.
