Cumberland Schools to Test Seat Belts on Buses

print friendly

Cumberland County Schools will be one of six districts in the state for a pilot program to see how students, parents and drivers feel about seat belts on school buses.

Wanda McPaul, public information officer for the school system, said the bus should arrive next week, but that officials have not decided yet which route the bus will use the bus first.

A standard bus can hold three elementary-age students while a bus with seat belts can hold two students.

There are 502 buses in the school system. Seat belts cost about $10,000 per bus to install, officials said.
