Reward Offered for Leads in Durham Police Shooting

Durham Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrests of two men wanted for shooting a police officer on Sunday.

Officer D.B. Vereen was responding to a break-in call in northern Durham on Sunday night when he confronted two men at the back of a house at 1410-A Cherrycrest Drive and gunfire was exchanged.

One of the men is described as a black male with a medium complexion in his late teens or early 20s. He had short hair and was wearing a long white T-shirt and blue jeans.

A second man is described as a black male with cornrows or dreadlocks and wearing a black T-shirt.

Police said the two men might have fled the scene in a silver Nissan Maxima or a silver Chrysler Sebring.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Durham police at 919-560-4440, ext. 246 or Durham Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Vereen was wearing a bulletproof vest. He was treated and released from Duke University Hospital Monday morning.
