Tarboro, N.C. — Authorities said Thursday that they had identified a woman's body that was found behind an abandoned Edgecombe County house last month.
A man called the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office on Aug. 17 and said he was searching for bottles when he saw a body behind the house on Seven Bridges Road, between Battleboro and Whitakers.
Pathologists at Pitt Memorial Hospital identified the body as Jackie Nickeyla Thorpe, 35. The cause of death hasn't been determined, authorities said.
Thorpe had been missing since May 8, when she was last seen on Carolina Avenue in Rocky Mount, authorities said.
