Benefit Concert Set for Slain Mom's Family

Jenna Nielsen with family

A “Justice 4 Jenna” concert is scheduled for Saturday night to benefit the family of Jenna Nielsen.

Nielsen, 22, of Fuquay-Varina, was restocking newspaper vending machines on June 14 when she was stabbed to death outside a Lake Wheeler Road convenience store. She was eight months pregnant with her third child at the time of her death.

No arrests have been made in the case, but police have released a composite sketch of a man wanted for questioning.

Pivot and Transient, two Raleigh bands, and Agents of the Sun out of Baltimore will perform at Volume 11 Tavern, at 658 Maywood Ave. in Raleigh, at 8 p.m. Saturday.

“Myself and the rest of the band wanted to know how we could help,” said Brian Kelly, lead singer for Pivot. “This incident happened in our back yard, so to speak. ... This is the best way we can think of to show our support in this time, not only for family and friends, but for the community.”

Neilsen's father, Kevin Blaine, said the concert should help the family keep the case in the public's eye as police continue to investigate.

Police have no suspects in the case, but have released a composite photo of a person of interest wanted for questioning.

He is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, standing about 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weighing about 120 pounds. He had black hair pulled into a ponytail and wore a dark-colored sleeveless shirt and baggy denim shorts. Police believe he may be Hispanic.

Anyone with information about the case should call the Raleigh Police Department's tip line at 919-227-6220.
