Raleigh to Look at Entertainment Permits At Night Clubs

e-mail print friendly

A shooting at a Raleigh night club is prompting officials to evaluate the some of the city's night spots.

Tyrone Robert Convington was shot and killed June 25 outside Club Black Tie, located at 3201 New Bern Ave. A second man, Kurtis Michael Richard LeDue, was treated at WakeMed for non-life-threatening injuries.

In the wake of that shooting, the city is reviewing all entertainment permits. Council member Philip Isley wants to know if there are any outstanding violations.

City leaders said if there are violations, the club's permits could be revoked, effectively shutting down an establishment.

AH thanks for the info Dark_Horse. This makes perfect sense then. Like I stated before, a strict dress code and cover charge will usually keep the riff raff out.

This reminds me of a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

jaredg I can tell you that on the nights that they have the most problems the dress code is "come as you are", 18 for women, 21 for men, and no cover. Then the place is packed beyond capacity. That's a perfect storm for trouble.

I wonder what their dress code is and how strictly it is enforced. I can't say because I've never been there, but based on previous reports of crime at that establishment, I would bet that they are attracting a "thug" crowd. It's no secret that "thug" mentality and "thug" culture glorifies violence. If this club is attracting that sort of clientele then they can't be surprised when things like this happen. The city should do everyone a favor and shut this place down.

jaredg, blackties did/does have a dress code. The clothes do not force the behavior. And, I agree, bring back Swains! They had the best food, great steaks, potatoes. They even had the servers who would come out and fix your "tater" for you.
