Byron Waring in court
Byron Waring in court

The sentencing phase in the death-penalty trial for a Raleigh man convicted in a 2005 stabbing death is expected to continue next week.

Byron Waring was found guilty Thursday of first-degree murder in the Nov. 8, 2005, stabbing death of a 22-year-old Lauren Redman.

Police said Redman was raped and stabbed more than 20 times inside her Raleigh apartment.

Prosecutors said Waring and Joseph Sanderlin went to Redman's apartment to collect on a debt owned to her former roommate, George Sasser.

Sanderlin is charged with murder in the case, while Sasser is charged as an accessory after the fact.

In the first day of the sentencing phase of Waring's trial on Friday, prosecutors described Redman's brutal slaying, while the defense presented testimony that they hope will convince jurors to spare Waring's life.

No Wake County jury has handed down a death sentence since 2001.

"No Jury hsa handed down a Death Sentence in wake county since 2001" - - This says ALOT for how our society has turned against the very MORALS that founded this country. What ever happened to "an eye for an eye, and tooth for a tooth"?? I say we need to go back to the basic's and start showing these thugs that if you want to go on a rampage, you will swing the next day! I can only imagine how many innocent lives would be saved for fear of swinging at the end of a rope!

surely this man needs to be executed real soon

I'll debate with the judge. It will go something like this...I'll kill him, No, I'll kill him...
