Hog Waste Vigil Ends Thursday

print friendly

A 51-hour hog vigil will end Thursday in downtown Raleigh.

The purpose is to draw attention to how hog waste affects the environment. The main goal is new laws to end sprayfields and help clean up industrial hog farms.

The vigil, held behind the state Legislature Building, started at 3 p.m. Wednesday and will end at 6 p.m. Thursday.

I wish everyone at the vigil had been at the Super Soil Field Day held on Tuesday at Tyndall Farms. Super Soil is a company that is going to make spraying fields and lagoon waste a thing of the past. You can read an article regarding this in the Sampson Independent Newspaper edition date 06-20-07.

I've been around hog farms and they are funky, the paper mills are worse and don't go to in the east towards morehead beach when the cabbage or something are rotting all in the fields. That one caused an upchuck.

Have family out in Johnston County and have recently purchased land there as well. It's near a hog farm and honestly, I have only smelled the farm a couple of times. Maybe I'm just a strange one, but when I do smell the farm, it just smells like livestock=farm smells. You know, that same smell you get when you enter the livestock arena at the State Fair. I own horses and their odors don't bother me. Maybe I'm just the strange one?

I had to call my brother in-law to ask. I went to get him near Burgaw which is in Pender Co. So I'm thinking I stopped to get directions in either Sampson Co. or Duplin Co.

Milky.............. YOU are a TRIP !!!!!!!!!
