Smithfield, N.C. — A CSX train carrying coal went off the tracks in a remote area of Smithfield shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.
There were no reports of injuries.
It happened at about 1:53 a.m. between Brogden Road and Wal Pat Road near Jerry Williams Lumber Company.
Calls to CSX were not immediately returned and it was unclear the number of cars involved or why the derailed.
Authorities said the derailment does not pose a danger but did affect Amtrak passenger trains Saturday traveling on the route to and from South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

I could be very wrong, but I don't remember there ever being railroads tracks on Brightleaf where Chick-Fil-A is?

Yeah, that freight train/Amtrak collision back in 1994 was massive, but from my understanding, new policies were enacted to help protect against those type of accidents. It happened on the section of track approximately where the Chic-fil-a is today in Smithfield.
