Fayetteville Mayor Tony Chavonne is expected to announce next month that he will seek a second term for office.

Chavonne, 52, unseated three-time Mayor Marshall Pitts Jr. in 2005 under a campaign that the city could be "more prosperous with the right planning and direction."

Many residents voted for Chavonne in 2005, because he opposed the annexation of more than 26 square miles that would make more than 42,000 people Fayetteville residents. Many of those people said they were frustrated because they felt like the city didn't listen to them when they were annexed.

The Democrat is expected to make an official announcement at a June 7 fundraiser.

I wish I could vote for him. NC's forced annexation law is archaic and unfair...good on you Mayor Chavonne and best wishes.
