POPLAR GROVE — A n 83-year-old Johnston County man died Wednesday evening when a car fell off a home-made jack and onto him while he was working on it, the sheriff's office said.
The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. at 4285 Bryant Pond Rd., in the Poplar grove community, near the Sampson County line. The rural area of the county has a Dunn postal address.
William Scrivnor's wife found him when she came home, authorities said. She called 911, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.
The case has been ruled an accidental death.
