Duke Receives Multimillion-Dollar Grant From EPA

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is granting Duke University nearly $8 million.

The money will be used to support a five-year study of factors that contribute to low birth weight and premature birth.

Researchers will look into factors like harmful environmental exposures, social stress, mother's health and genetic predisposition that may affect birth outcomes.

This project sounds like a public health issue. It should be funded by NIH not EPA. To reduce social stress, and to protect our environment from polutants, maybe they should spend the pork on something usefull - like the 540 extension in Apex.

On the other hand-

If all governmental agencies cooperated to the piont they perform each others projects, without jurisdictional jealosy, maybe we could actually have a functioning Dept. of Homeland Security.
