City leaders are seeking the public's input on the city's next police chief.

A brief survey available on the city's Web site wants to know what citizens see as the challenges facing the city. City leaders also want to know skills a police chief should have and what questions Raleigh residents would ask in the interview

The deadline to respond is May 6.

Jane Perlov, the city's former police chief, resigned March 2 to take a position to become head of security for Bank of America in Charlotte.

Don't forget N.C. is still a little behind with the times. If it takes a debate and news media to get the school bus to pick kids up within the community to keep them from getting hit by cars, you know it will take a snow storm to get the right chief.

Steve Crisp what makes a white man more qualified for this job? What Happened to the previous chief, was'nt he a white"qualified MALE"?.It should be a qualified person period.I hope you don't teach your children to be a racist or sexist,so sad in the year 2007.

houdie, if Perlov did so well, then how come moral was at a all time low, and turn over of experienced officers at an all time high. Officers with 5+ years of experience fleeing to other departments for less pay. Now if things were so rosy, why would that be happening?

Hey "nospin", why don't you tell the truth about what happened and not just bash some detectives. You can't charge someone with a serious crime based soley on their prior history and someone saying they did it. There was obviously some other evidence that resulted in you being charged. But I guess that wouldn't fit in how you want to "spin" you sob story.

This survey is inane. The citizens of Raleigh have already told the Council what they want in a police department and its chief. We did that when we went into the voting booth. Unfortunately, way to many liberal weenies voted and we ended up with a city council that has no collective spine to make a decision. I can guarantee you that the only reason they are asking for an opinion at all is to gauge just how much of the electorate will demand a woman or minority chief. They simply want to know what the backlash will be if it turns out that a white male is actually the most qualified to lead.
