Fayetteville police suspended their search Wednesday for a 74-year-old man who is believed to be cognitively impaired.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Othelia "O.T." Johnson, who was last seen at 5257 Covenwood Dr., around 4 a.m. It was canceled around 10:45 p.m.

It wasn't clear why the alert was canceled or if Johnson was found safe.

This was the second Silver Alert issued for Johnson in as many months.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
