An 27-year-old LaGrange man broke into the Emeritus at the Pines senior living center in Goldsboro late Friday and fired shots at an interior door while looking for a staff member, Goldsboro police said Saturday.

Waylon Britt Thompson, of 254 Beston Dr., broke the glass on the facility's front door around 11 p.m. and fired birdshot at a door and wall, police said. He was looking for his ex-girlfriend, who is a staff member at the community.

Goldsboro police and Wayne County deputies responded to a 911 call, but Thompson left the facility before they arrived.

No one was injured in the incident, but Trisha Capps, executive director of the center, said Goldsboro police and Wayne County sheriff's deputies evacuated staff from the building.

Residents were not evacuated during the incident, Capps said.

Thompson was arrested at his home following the incident and faces charges of breaking and entering, firing into an occupied structure, domestic assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

He was in the Wayne Count jail Saturday under a $60,000 secured bond.

No other information was released.
