82nd Airborne Division paratrooper dies after Fayetteville wreck

Fayetteville, N.C. — A paratrooper with Fort Bragg's 82nd Airborne Division died from injuries he received in a wreck Friday afternoon in Fayetteville, the military said Wednesday.

Staff Sgt. Dannie M. Simmons Jr., 29, of South Hill, Va., was a unit supply specialist with the 82nd's Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion.

Simmons joined the Army in January 2005 and had recently returned from a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan.

Fayetteville police are still investigating the wreck, which happened on Cliffdale Road.

They have charged the driver of the SUV which hit the motorcycle in this accident. It was in the Fayetteville paper two days ago.
