Fayetteville, N.C. — A Fayetteville man wanted on drug charges has been captured in Mexico after being on the run for nearly two years, authorities said Thursday.
U.S. Marshals arrested G.W. Ray, 46, last month in Guadalajara and extradited him to the United States after he was deported by Mexican authorities, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Ray, who lived at 2570 Bangle St., is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $345,600 secured bond.
Warrants were issued for his arrest on Dec. 29, 2010, on four counts each of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, selling cocaine, delivering cocaine and trafficking in opium/heroin. Warrants also charged him with maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, conspiring to sell and deliver cocaine and conspiring to traffic opium/heroin.
Ray also had four orders for failure to appear on charges that include two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine, and one count each of selling cocaine, delivering cocaine, manufacturing cocaine, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance, misdemeanor larceny and driving while license revoked.
Authorities said Ray fled while officers were attempting to serve the warrants and orders.
