Fayetteville residents invited to discuss hiring of police chief

print friendly

Fayetteville residents are invited to a public meeting to discuss the selection of the city’s next police chief.

The first meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 13 in the City Hall Council Chamber, 433 Hay St. The second meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 25 at Westover Recreation Center, 267 Bonanze Drive. Both meetings will be one hour.

City Manager Ted Voorhees will respond to submitted questions, and participants will have a chance to speak. Speakers may sign up in advance by sending an email to jlowe@ci.fay.nc.us or sign up at the venue before the meeting begins.

Questions may be submitted to nwalls@ci.fay.nc.us or by calling 910-433-1578.
The job has been posted on the city’s website and will close Oct. 5. The applications will be reviewed in October.

Katherine Bryant, veteran officer with the Fayetteville Police Department, was named interim chief in July. She replaced Tom Bergamine, who retired.

I know Katherine personally. The City of Fayetteville would be lucky to have her as Chief full time.

Just,

Again a waste of tax money, put in local paper, for couple of days then hire her. The city has hire a selection committe spent tons of tax money, I wisk I could sell and leave this city

Katherine Bryant is an outstanding person to be given the Job. Waste on time looking further, Hire her

Why waste all the money, when you have a good Chief working in th e position. If she was not good enough for the job why was she placed there? Just the usual poor leadership in Fayetteville. Sherlock

Well its hard to understand but she is not the "Cheif of Police" she is the "Interum Cheif of Police" The way it works, which is crazy if you ask me, is they have to advertise the job in the paper and any other means for applications. It is like that for any city or county job unless it is posted on the city or counties website as a continuously highering possition like Patrol Officer or Deputy or Telecommunicator. She has to apply for the job just like all the rest that want the Cheif's possition. I see that she has been doing a good job for the city and the department even though I dont live in Fayetteville I do hope that she gets the job! I wish her all the best of luck! I hope that this sheds some light on your questions and concerns about it. Sad to say but it is true!
