Bragg soldier killed in Afghanistan

Two U.S. soldiers were killed Saturday when enemy forces opened fire on their unit in Afghanistan, the Defense Department said Tuesday.

Staff Sgt. Jonathan P. Schmidt, 28, was based at Fort Bragg.

He and Japan-based Staff Sgt. Jeremie S. Border, 28, died in Batur Village.

Schmidt, of Petersburg, Va., was assigned to 192nd Ordnance Battalion, 52nd Ordnance Group, 20th Support Command.

Border, of Mesquite, Texas, was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group at Torii Station.

The wars was a waste of money and solved nothing.

We have done nothing but waste money and lives over there.

You are absolutely right. That was the former Bush's idea. Now President Obama is trying to end the wars slowly and get our service men/women back home safely. Give him a chance and he will get this job done. My condolence to his family and many friends and soldiers friends. May God continue to bless all of you.

I had the pleasure of working with SSG Schmidt, he was a incredible soldier. Gone too soon! RIP!

Sad, bring the our Soldiers home. We have done nothing but waste money and lives over there. They hate us and continue to hate us. We have enough issues here to address.

My youngest came home from there last week, my oldest is still there. My heart breaks every time I see these articles. Condolences to the family!
