Raeford, N.C. — A 33-year-old man died after his pickup truck struck a tree off a Hoke County road late Friday, state troopers said.
Michel McPhaul's 2005 GMC truck ran off the right side of Gainey Road, near Fulford McMillan Road, while he was approaching a curve to the right, troopers said. The truck continued traveling until it struck a tree.
McPhaul, who had been at a family gathering earlier that evening, died of his injuries, troopers said.
Troopers haven't identified the cause of the wreck, but said they think speed might have been a factor.
