A Raleigh police officer was charged with driving while impaired during a Tuesday traffic stop in Clayton, police said Friday.

Michael Joseph Keon, 37, was also charged with speeding when he was pulled over on Covered Bridge Road, police said.

Keon has been with the Raleigh Police Department for more than 12 years and is assigned to the Field Operations Division. Department spokesman Jim Sughrue said Keon hasn't been suspended because of his arrest.

The man drove drunk, No excuses, He knew better,, take his badge,, It was his on decision,,, Guilty as charged

Crikey. I met this guy a few years ago. He seemed to be a decent person and hard-working officer. I am sorry that he made poor decisions that led to this.

I am sorry too that this happened. We hold our LEO to a higher standard. He has to accept responsibility for this, and those consequences have to be more severe given his position. There is no excuse for drunk driving for anyone.

This is a personal issue as he was not working so its really no one's business.

sctech is obviously a cop if the people Koon is sworn to protect and serve are "bottom feeders". Now you know what our cops think of us.
