A Durham man who was injured during an assault and robbery on July 24 died Wednesday night, according to Durham police. Investigators are searching for several teenage boys in connection with the crime.

Wayne Preston Cross, 52, of Durham, told officers that several black males in their mid teens approached him in Long Meadow Park, in the 900 block of Holloway Street, around 12:15 a.m. on July 24. One of the teens then assaulted and robbed him, police said.

Cross suffered critical injuries and was taken to Durham Regional Hospital, where he died on Wednesday. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Investigator Pate at 919-560-4440, ext. 29332, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

He has a right to be in that park at any time he chose.

Yeah, he has a right to be there and the people that assaulted him should be locked up for a long time, or executed, in my opinion. Still doesn't make it smart.

Arent parks CLOSED at dusk?

Sought for probation that is......

"I blame the Durham PD"...Uh - I think the delinquents are to blame.

"Not smart to be in a park in Durham at midnight. His purpose wasn't worth the price."

Stop blaming the victim! He has a right to be in that park at any time he chose. The assailants, on the other had, did not have the right to KILL someone.
