Fayetteville man pleads guilty to poisoning geese

print friendly

A Fayetteville man pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing Canada geese in June, authorities said.

Roy Bernard Goforth Jr. was fined $100 and ordered to pay $2,500 to replace 20 geese after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of unlawful taking Canada geese.

The geese were found dead on June 2 near a Cumberland County pond. An investigation by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission concluded that Goforth had poisoned the geese with a pesticide.

Wildlife officers cited Goforth Wednesday, and his attorney asked for an immediate court hearing, authorities said.

“He had a right to a speedy trial, and he got one,” Wildlife Commission Sgt. Kent Barefoot said in a statement.

I agree give him a medal,, There is nothing nice or pretty about a flock of geese, They dont hang around me very long,,,

I love the geese! They come in my yard on occasion and I run out and feed them bread. They love it. I usually count 24-25 geese. They always bring a smile to my face. They will hiss at me, but I know they are just being cantakkerous. Sometimes, I get lucky and one of them will actually come up to me and take a piece of bread from my fingers. It's neat the way their ruff beak feels. Yes. They do leave a mess, but to me, it's worth it, because they are so sweet!!

The hunting season for them opens Saturday. Hope to see you out there. - Just another bad guy

Do you shoot them and eat them? Not attacking or criticising - I am a totally curious nonhunter (not against hunting, just have to interest in doing it myself)

where did you get their Federally protected.

Love this guy!
