Morrisville bans guns in parks
The Morrisville Town Council voted Tuesday to prohibit concealed handguns in several local parks and recreational facilities.

The General Assembly last year expanded the rights of people to carry concealed weapons, but lawmakers gave local officials the option of preventing weapons in parks.
“There has been considerable thought put into this," Morrisville Mayor Jackie Holcombe said in a statement. "This isn’t about stereotyping anyone; this is about public safety. Most concealed-carry owners are law abiding, well-trained individuals who adhere to the laws. All this ordinance will do is lower the risk that someone will make a mistake they can’t take back.”
Handguns are now forbidden at Morrisville Community Park, the Morrisville Aquatics and Fitness Center, Shiloh Park, Cedar Fork Community Center, Crabtree Creek Nature Park and the Indian Creek Greenway trailhead.
Morrisville Parks and Recreation Director Jerry Allen said that signs will be posted to indicate where concealed weapons are now restricted.
