Fayetteville, N.C. — Cumberland County investigators have charged a Fayetteville man with setting fire to his home, authorities said Wednesday.
Jeremy Obrien Mercer, 30, of 427 Starlit Drive, stuffed both toilets in his home with trash, paper and other items before settling them on fire Tuesday evening, authorities said. He then barricaded himself inside the residence by putting furniture against the windows and doors, they said.
Firefighters and deputies were able to extinguish the fire, and Mercer, who was home alone, didn't appear to have any physical injuries, authorities said.
