Selma, N.C. — Selma police on Monday released the name of man charged in a fatal hit-and-run Saturday night.

Jose Rumildo Canales faces driving while impaired, hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death, felony death by motor vehicle and aggravated felony inflicting serious injury with a motor vehicle charges, police said.

Investigators say Canales was driving in the 800 block of River Road when he struck Carlos Velasquez, but didn't stop. He was located and arrested a short time later.

Velasquez was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where he later died.
