The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons canceled two Silver Alerts Monday for a pair who went missing from an assisted living facility in Robeson County.

Leslie Gwyn Covington, 37, and Thomas Ronald Guarnieri, 48, were reported missing from Dial's Family Care Home, at 1685 Canal Road, in Rowland on Sunday.

It wasn't clear why the alerts were canceled or whether Covington and Guarnieri had been found safe.

Developed in 2007, the Silver Alert system quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

Thank you for not publishing their diagnoses again. People do have a right to some privacy.

I'm glad the alert was cancelled. That probably means they're safe. I hope the group home can address the reasons they were so unhappy and felt they had to leave.
