Warren woman killed in murder-suicide

Norlina, N.C. — A Henderson man shot and killed a woman at her Warren County home Saturday night and then committed suicide, Sheriff Johnny M. Williams said.

He said that Roy Junior Steed, 29, of 781 Vanco Mill Road in Henderson, used a pistol to kill Tracey Alston, 32, and then himself at a home on Woodway Drive in Norlina around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators have not said how Alston and Steed knew each other or what led to the murder-suicide.

Alston worked for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety in the adult correction division.

Steed had a lengthy criminal record dating to 2000, including convictions for drug trafficking, possession of a firearm by a felon and assault on a female, according to state Division of Adult Correction records. He was most recently released from prison in February 2011 after serving a nearly three-year sentence.

All I can say about this situation is that its very sad.two young people gone and for what? Kids have to be left behind with unanswered questions for what? i pray for both families and im sure this is no easy pill to swallow.Suicide in my opinion is a selfish act and if you have the thought Im begging please seek help..God bless Everyone

Vance County is a hot spot for Heroin. June may have still been dealing. Tracy may have caught on and threatened to turn him in. Her career would have been on the line. Who knows. I do know June through some friends and met him a few times. He seemed to care about Tracy and her kids. This is a tragedy

Thank you @beinformed. And The only thing people are looking at is that he had a record. But as I do recall he served his time for the crimes he committed and paid his debt that has nothing to do with what happened Saturday night. His record, or time served has nothing to do with what took place on saturday. I'm not making excuses for what he did or what happened only god knows why it happened the way it did.

It hurts that this happened but nobody knows what he was going thru to make him do something like this. Tracey was a Correctional officer at Warren. Correction where Junie ( Roy) was also a inmate and served time while she was working there. Roy and Tracey did have a relationship together unlike what many are saying. Roy served his time got out and got his barber's license to cut hair. Yes this is a tragedy and I like many wish it never had happened but times like these we need to pray. My prayers goes out to both families. And friends who lost a love ine. They both will be missed Rest in Peace Tracey and Junie. .... love you Junie my brother my friend for life
