WARRENTON, N.C. — A man who, authorities say, broke into a Warren County home on Friday has died from gunshot wounds he received at the time.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office said three men kicked in a door to a home on Willis Pinnell Road in Warrenton around 1 p.m. Friday.

Two people were home at the time, the sheriff's office said.

At some point, John B. Owens, of Sulphur Springs Road, was shot. He died Saturday at Durham Regional Hospital.

The two other men involved in the break-in fled the scene and remain at large.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation and that no charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon.

Investigators would not say who shot Owens or if he was armed.
