Police said Tuesday that they have arrested two men in connection with nine holdups in Fayetteville since Saturday.

Christopher Martin Gordon, 25, of Salmon Drive in Fayetteville, and Don Antonio Flournoy, 47, of Abundant Drive in Hope Mills, were each charged with nine counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and nine counts of criminal conspiracy. Gordon also faces nine counts of second-degree kidnapping.

The robbery spree started at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Short Stop convenience store at 3400 Ramsey St. and ended at 9:30 p.m. Monday at a Subway restaurant at 1738 Bingham Drive, police said.

In between, the following convenience stores were robbed:

  • Kangaroo at 1302 Robeson St., around 11:45 p.m. Saturday
  • Kangaroo at 2326 Owen Drive, shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday
  • Kangaroo at 2410 Owen Drive, around 4:30 p.m. Sunday
  • Short Stop at 1960 Cedar Creek Road, shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday
  • Marathon at 704 Country Club Drive, around 3:30 p.m. Monday
  • Exxon at 2100 Cedar Creek Road, around 7:30 p.m. Monday
  • Kangaroo at 6489 Yadkin Road, around 9:15 p.m. Monday

In each case, a short, thin man with a mustache and pointed goatee used a handgun to demand money from clerks. Police said they believe the robber changed clothes between holdups since clothing descriptions varied.

After the Exxon robbery Monday night, police noticed from security video that the robber fled in a dark-colored Chevrolet Cavalier that was parked nearby with another person behind the wheel.

An officer later stopped a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car and took the driver to the Fayetteville Police Department for questioning. Investigators determined that the suspected robber was staying at a Motel 6 at 2076 Cedar Creek Road, police said.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the room and found a handgun matching the description of the weapon used in the robberies, police said.
