print friendly

A driver was killed in Fayettevillle early Wednesday after her car collided with another vehicle at an intersection, police said.

Fayetteville police identified the driver as Cecilia Duckett, 48, of the 200 block of Spears Drive in Fayetteville.

Police said Duckett was driving her Ford Focus on Dallas Street about 12:56 a.m. when she turned left onto Owen drive and into the path of a 2010 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Scott Allen, 20, of Lotus Lane in Sanford.

Duckett was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Allen was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the accident.

LocalYokel: The article specifically stated that the person turned left onto Owen drive and "...INTO THE PATH OF A 2010 CHEVEROLET PICKUP TRUCK...". Two vehicles cannot occupy the same space on the road at the same time. The driver of the Ford Focus failed to yield the right of way to traffic on Owen Drive causing an accident. What part of the definition of "accident" don't you understand??

Yeah, definitely an "accident" WRAL. No one broke any traffic laws or was at fault in the "accident". This was definitely anj event that could in no way have been prevented. Being unpreventable it's called "accident" in the headline of article.

Left turn lanes are super dangerous because some places there is a left arrow where the turning car has the right of way, and in other intersections all lanes get a green light at once and the turning car does NOT have the right of way.
