Spring Lake, N.C. — A Spring Lake man was among six soldiers who were killed this week during an enemy attack in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Wednesday.
Pfc. Trevor B. Adkins, 21, died from wounds suffered in the July 8 detonation of an improvised explosive device south of Kabul.
The 2010 Overhills High School graduate was assigned to the 978th Military Police Company, 93rd Military Police Battalion from Fort Bliss, Texas.
"He wanted to be an MP. That's what he always talked about," said Stephanie Creech, his former chemistry teacher. "He loved junior ROTC. He absolutely loved it."
An Overhills High guidance counselor described Adkins as "quietly awesome."
The IED also killed Staff Sgt. Ricardo Seija, 31, of Tampa, Fla.; Spc. Erica P. Alecksen, 21, of Eatonton, Ga.; Spc. Clarence Williams III, 23, of Brooksville, Fla.; Pfc. Alejandro J. Pardo, 21, of Porterville, Calif.; and Pfc. Cameron J. Stambaugh, 20, of Spring Grove, Pa.
They also were members of the 978th Military Police Company.
So far this year, 12 Fort Bragg soldiers have been killed by IEDs in Afghanistan.
