Emergency crews from the North Carolina Forest Service and the Fayetteville Fire Department battled a woods fire late Monday afternoon that burned 10 to 15 acres in western Fayetteville near Lake Rim.

Fayetteville police temporarily closed Old Raeford Road, between Raeford and South Reilly roads, because of heavy smoke. The fire, which was reported about 2:30 p.m., was contained within a few hours.

Officials said no homes were threatened, although two homes were evacuated briefly.

It was unclear what started the blaze.
