print friendly

A federal grand jury has indicted six men in a dog-fighting operation in Robeson County, authorities said Thursday.

James Matthew Blackman, 43, Ricky Dial, 55, and Jimmy Jacobs, 40, all of Maxton, Frank Jacobs, 69, of Laurinburg, and Tony Harris, 35 and Ozell McLain, 59, both of South Carolina, were indicted on conspiracy and four other charges related to the operation.

According to the indictment, the men trained and bred pit bulls for fighting, hosted and participated in dog fights in secluded locations in various states, placed and accepted bets on fights, collected entrance fees for fights and offered prize money for winning animals.

“Word must go out – dog fighting, a particularly cruel crime, will not be tolerated," U.S. Attorney Thomas Walker said in a statement.

Yes Crew Dog. Let the breeders fight to the death, then shoot the winner. But only after we chain them up outside, feed them gunpowder, and have strangers come by and beat on them to make them more vicious. Yes, they actually do these things to fighting dogs.

I got an idea. Let the breeders fight it out and charge admission. No holes barred, fight to the death. The events would be sold out every time.

How about a life sentence for all involved. Not going to happen with certain legislators in office. They will probably have the dogs taken, destroyed and slapped on the wrist with a $200 fine. Got to give these guy time to think about it!

sadly, bigboohoo is correct. NC is most definitely not known for taking a hard line on animal abuse......getting better but it's slow and painful and sometimes 2 steps forward,

This state is a laughing stock on any crime, animal or not!! They just let a woman take a plea deal for murder and she'll get 8 years MAX and they have given her time served as well!! You can do just about anything in this state and have little to no punishment. It's absolutely ridiculous.
