A 14-year-old Henderson boy was shot and killed early Wednesday while riding his bike.

Police said that officers found Clayton Batchelor Jr., of Harriett Street, dead around 3:30 a.m. on the roadside in the 1300 block of South Williams Street.

Investigators would not comment about the shooting, but Pastor John Miles, a friend of Batchelor's family, said the boy, known in the neighborhood as C.J., was riding home from a friend's house when he was shot.

"He shouldn't die like this. It's bad. It hurts," Miles said. Now we've got a grieving mother and a grandmother and aunt getting ready to bury their son, 14 years old."

Neighbors say Batchelor's death – just days after a young woman was shot nearby – is another senseless violent act in their community.

"There's so many innocent bystanders and so many gets getting gunned down in this community and in this town, it's just ridiculous," said Nakeisha Alston.

The sad story here is another young black youth is dead at 3:30 in the morning..... would it have been better if the child was white, latino, pink, green??

This is so sad to me. Some people have no sympathy when it comes to stuff like this. I had the pleasure of going to high school as well as working with the victims mother and I must say, she is a magnificent person and mother so to put the blame on her is terrible. Regardless of what happened, a CHILD is dead and nothing can change that. I couldn't imagine having to deal with the thought of burying my child. Instead of trash talking what happened, people need to pray for this family because God knows they need it.

"THAT IS SOMETHING THE THE POLICE AND CITY MAJOR WOULD NEED TO CHANGE BY GOING INTO THE COMMUNITY AND REMOVED THE BAD SEEDS" - trfreddie

theycan't. They would be charged with "profiling" or "police brutality". The courts will make sure the "bad seeds" get put back into the garden to grow into bad fruit.

The community needs to get fed up with living in fear, and watching their children's lives be destroyed. The citizens and neighbors have to take back the community from the predators.

trfreddie: all the popo in NC can't change it. Change has to come from WITHIN the community.

Everyone saying that its ok for a 14 year old to be out after 11pm, must not know that neighborhood and must not live in henderson.
