A Hyundai rear-ended a Capital Area Transit bus on Capital Boulevard near Westinghouse Boulevard on Wednesday morning, injuring several bus passengers, according to police.

The crash happened about 10:45 a.m., just north of Interstate 440, and all of the injuries were minor, said Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue. Some of the passengers asked to taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

The crash closed several lanes of Capital Boulevard, but they reopened by 11:40 a.m.

No other information was released.

sure didn't look like anyone was hurting when I passed it!

Same thing happened in Rocky Mount several years ago and injury claims came in from people who were not even riding the transit bus at the time.

If the car was going 45, the driver would be dead. I guess they forgot to mention that.

The back end of the bus would show SOME damage.

The damage to the back of that bus is AMAZING....not.

beaupeep - This was on Capital, so the Hyundai was liking going at least 45 mph probably faster. The bus was at a stop, or close to it. If passengers were standing (very likely based on other comments here that this bus route is usually full), it would be very easy to fall. I ride public transit every day (not CAT), and the force from hitting a large pot hole can actually knock someone down if they are standing, especially if they are moving down the aisle (most drivers I ride with will drive easier if passengers are standing to prevent this). The jolt from being rear ended could absolutely cause falls and injuries.
